Worlds Top Plain / Origin Dark Chocolate Bars 2024
International Chocolate Awards – Bronze
This exceptional limited-release chocolate is crafted from rare cacao beans grown and fermented in the northern Philippine town of Echague (formerly “Camarag”), nestled in the lush Cagayan Valley province of Isabela.
The beans are carefully fermented in handcrafted Gmelina wood boxes and slow-dried over several days by Kuya Earl and Ate Jessi Ann, whose meticulous care brings out the cacao’s unique character. The result is a smooth and creamy chocolate with rich flavor notes of roasted chestnuts, Black Forest cake, and stout beer.
Encased in stunning packaging designed by Maryland-based designer and educator Ana Mengote Baluca, the bar’s vibrant colors draw inspiration from the Camarag flower native to Echague. The intricate patterns honor the indigenous weaves and textiles of the Gaddang and Yogad peoples, celebrating the cultural heritage of the Cagayan Valley.
The Kasama Echague Reserve Chocolate Bar is a true masterpiece of craft, flavor, and tradition—an ode to the land, its people, and their stories.
